Lincoln Place, developed in the 1950s, initially housed World War II veterans in garden-style apartments. Completely renovated in the 1990s, apartments were added and a new two-story clubhouse completed. After fifteen more years, it was determined that the clubhouse was underutilized. JKA was retained to renovate the second floor of this structure into a regional headquarters facility for the owners, a national multifamily houser.
The existing facility was stripped to its structure to accommodate a mix of private and open offices, a conference room, and co-working lounge space featuring a full kitchen. Contributing to a sense of openness, all offices utilized a modular Haworth glazing system. The same system, including a folding glass wall, allowed for the conference room to com-bine with the co-working area, creating a dynamic hybrid workspace able to accommodate staff from throughout the west coast operations at monthly meetings. Working with Design Syndicate, an interiors architecture firm, a sensuous palette of materials, finishes, fixtures, furnishings, light fixtures and art were selected to establish a sense of domestic com-fort that both facilitates the ease of work sessions while providing an inviting environment for residents to interact with company staff.
