Found Hotels is a new hospitality chain that transforms older residential structures into hotels that provide both traditional suites as well as shared accommodations. The West Los Angeles facility, the first to fully implement the brand, provides 88 mixed room types, a garden court, lobby-lounge areas, guest kitchen and laundry, as well as a café restaurant, all in a closed, vaguely Mediterranean senior’s facility built in the early 1970s. JKA’s work program included reconfiguration of rooms and common areas, the creation of a new entry point, coordination of new building systems and services, seismic upgrades, and the design of a new take-out restaurant and café that serves both guests and the surrounding neighborhood. The structure was completely reclad in metal panels at upper stories, mansards were replaced with parapets, new windows were installed throughout, and a new ground level façade utilizing glazed bricks, new storefront, a cadence of building bays, and a marquee were combined to establish contemporary identity and sidewalk interest
