CSU Dominguez Hills DIT Help Desk

The existing Department of Information Technology (IT) Help Desk for Cal State Dominguez Hills is presently located in a building designed for classroom use. There is no functional separation between “customer” touchpoints and behind-the-scenes administrative and secure storage areas. Additionally, the Help Desk operation needs additional space to handle the growing range of activities associated with assisting students, faculty, and staff with technology needs.

 JKA, working with IDS Group, was retained by the University to inventory existing uses and equipment, work with the IT Department to determine future needs, and prepare a preliminary concept and opinion of cost for an enlarged facility at the ground level of the University’s central library. Based upon the completed inventory and a series of architect-facilitated meetings with IT that defined future program requirements, JKA developed a concept design and costs that places a “Think Tank” for formal and informal gathering, demonstrations, and lounging  at the center of the new 5,000 SF space. The Think Tank also adjoins a reception, waiting, and conference area, and these in turn abut a reconfigured outdoor plaza, allowing for plenty of indoor-outdoor interaction, activities and tech-related socializing during the peak time of Help Desk use, at the beginning and end of academic semesters.
