3434 Chesapeake Avenue Apartments

JKA was asked by the client to create a high-quality apartment building in a transit oriented community that would maximize residential units, encouraging residents to make use of public transportation. JKA was approached from a standpoint to increase the views of the building and attract people walking to and from the subway.

JKA strived to adapt the familial aesthetic of the neighborhood by revisiting mid-century design while still contemporizing the design. The facade features an approach and recede interaction between the street and residential units to meet the pedestrian at street level. The design adapts an apartment aesthetic that was once familial but still remains contemporary and modernizes motifs that were common to 1960’s apartments.

Conveniently located near the Expo Line, the resulting three story multi-family residential building in the West Adams neighborhood livens up the corridor, increasing much needed housing stock in a transit-oriented community.
