1340 West 4th Street Apartments

This ten unit infill apartment project overlooks downtown Los Angeles. To maximize views from each apartment, five duplex units are lifted above three flats that sit over an at-grade parking level.

On the top floor, two penthouse units share a roof deck with commanding outlooks over the downtown skyline. The parking area is open at both its east and western edges, bringing light and landscape into the typically dark spaces of a garage.

The design uses simple flat surfaces and clear expression of building function to create a sense of scale that is at once domestic and urban.
